Annual Cocktail Function

The Association welcomed guests, Board Members and staff from Member Schools to the AISACT Annual Cocktail Event held at the Royal Canberra Golf Club on Friday, 10th November 2017. The event provided the opportunity to celebrate the work of the Association in 2017.

Guests included the ACT Minister for Education and Early Childhood, Ms Yvette Berry MLA, Independent Schools of Australia Executive Director, Ms Colette Coleman, and key staff from the ACT Education Directorate and Catholic Education, including the Director of Catholic Education Mr Ross Fox.

Chair of the Association, Ms Rita Daniels, delivered a short presentation in which she outlined the achievement of the Association for 2017, and commented on work moving into 2018. Ms Daniels also farewelled departing Board Members and recognised their contribution to the success of the Association.

Each year at this event the Carl Palmer Award for Leadership and Excellence in ACT Independent Education is awarded. This year’s recipient of the award is Mr David Evans, Business Director of Canberra Grammar School. The citation for the award reads:

Few are so deeply and personally committed to their school as David is.

As Business Director at Canberra Grammar School, David has given tirelessly and selflessly to ensure the prosperity of the School, and in so doing he has secured and enhanced the educational opportunities of thousands upon thousands of students, as well as the professional opportunities of hundreds of staff members.

Throughout his 12 years of service to the School, David has also been an active Board Member of the AISACT, a significant contributor to its deliberations and planning, not least as a “critical friend” to the Finance Committee.

While not an educator, David’s sole purpose has been to facilitate educational excellence and opportunity, and one of Canberra’s largest independent schools is thriving in no small part as a consequence of David’s skill and phenomenal personal commitment to all that the School stands for.

The Association congratulates Mr Evans on receiving the award and looks forward to next year’s event to celebrate the work and achievements of the Association.
