Communities@Work’s Galilee School seeks to inspire young people to realise their full potential by developing and utilising their unique talents and capabilities; by aiding students to find a sense of purpose and value in themselves as productive and worthwhile members of our community. It is a registered, independent secondary school (Year 7 to 12) supporting young people for whom the mainstream schooling environment has struggled to deliver positive learning outcomes. It operates two campuses in Canberra: one in Holder and one in Kambah.

Galilee School empowers at-risk, vulnerable, and disadvantaged young people to engage in the social and economic life of their community by building understanding, resilience, health, life skills and self-efficacy. One of the aims of the school is to increase education and employment opportunities for students. Training, skill development and job readiness support, for students transitioning to the workforce or to further educational opportunities, is provided.

The school delivers the Australian Curriculum for years 7-10, focusing on empowering students to develop long-term resilience and resourcefulness. The school also aligns with the requirements of the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies for its Senior Secondary (Years 11 and 12) education program. While meeting the demands of the Australian Curriculum, students also develop interpersonal and life skills.

The school seeks to maintain a staff to student ratio of 1:5 and flexible indoor and outdoor learning environments encourage modern, evidence-based teaching strategies that respond to individual learning needs. Individual Learning Plans are developed and delivered via a flexible support model that is client-centred, strengths-based, relationship driven and restorative. For most of our students, Galilee School is the best chance they have to complete a comprehensive education successfully.
