New Schools

The Association of Independent Schools of the ACT (AISACT) is the peak body representing the ACT Independent school sector. Our mission is the advancement of educational excellence through the promotion of a strong Independent school sector in the ACT.

If you are interested in starting a new school in the ACT, you must first obtain in-principle approval and then apply to register an Independent school under the Education Act 2004 from the Registration Schools Advisory Board. The Minister for Education and Early Childhood approves applications to register a non-government school. Applicants must apply at least 2 years (but not more than 4 years) before the proposed start date for the new school.

Applicants must have a school site that is zoned for educational purposes.
