Opportunity: Executive Director
Date : 03 February 2025
The Association of Independent Schools of the ACT (AISACT) represents all of Canberra’s 18 independent schools, with one in five students in the ACT attending an independent school.
After a long and distinguished tenure, the current Executive Director, Mr Andrew Wrigley has announced his intention to retire in April 2025, and AISACT welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates for this important and exciting role.
The successful applicant will have high-level liaison experience in the government, education or
political sectors, and have a demonstrated capacity to brief ministers and work cooperatively
with senior government officials, schools and other education leaders.
A relevant degree is expected. Public speaking experience including a media representation role or the ability to represent the Association in the media (following training) is crucial, as is an understanding of education policies, relevant legislation and regulations, and issues that relate to the Association and its members.
As the Association’s public advocate, a shared commitment to the principles of independent education is critical; so too is the ability to work constructively with other education sectors, government, opposition and other parties, unions, government agencies and other non-government organisations.
The Executive Director role is based in Canberra at the office of the AISACT, leading a team of professionals in the vital work of supporting independent schools in the nation’s capital.
A competitive package and appropriate start date will be negotiated with the successful applicant and salary packaging is available.
